Cenicienta: Revisited

I think that it is very interesting to see things from different points of view, and this time Spanish is going to be the foreign language.
 
I'm going to share with you a story that a read some time ago that some American fellow had to write as a part of his Spanish lesson practices. His first attemp was to revise the world-wide known story of Cinderella, and here you are what he came up with.


Maybe we could try to help him correct his mistakes, if there are any at all. What do you think?


Cenicienta vivía en una casa elaborada con dos hermanastras feas y su madrastra. Las hermanastras y la madrastra siempre daban muchas órdenes a Cenicienta, y ella no podía decir nada porque tenía miedo de ser regañada. Aunque las hermanastras y la madrastra siempre exigían que Cenicienta trabajara mucho, ella nunca perdió la esperanza y soñaba con tener una vida diferente. Cuando trabajaba, ella hablaba y cantaba con los animales para divertirse en la casa. Su atuendo sucio no le importaba mucho porque vivía en sus sueños, no en la realidad. 

Un día, el rey invitó a todas las mujeres casaderas de la ciudad a un baile para escoger una esposa para el príncipe. Cuando las hermanastras estaban preparándose para el baile, Cenicienta soñó con el baile, y bailó con un palo de escoba. Ella decidió preguntarle a su madrastra si pudiera ir al baile. La madrastra estuvo lívida. “¡Lava los platos! ¡Quita el polvo! ¡Limpia el baño! También necesitas preparar la cena para cuando volvamos. ¡No tienes tiempo de ir al baile!” Cenicienta estuvo desalentada y empezó a perder la esperanza. 

El trabajo inexorable volvió loca a Cenicienta. De pronto Cenicienta oyó una voz. “¿Quieres ir al baile, no?” dijo la voz. Apareció su hada madrina. “¡Sí, me importa más que nada! Por todo mi vida he soñado con conocer el príncipe, y siempre he esperado que…” “¡Cállate!” gritó el hada madrina. “El príncipe es un calavera, y tiene la inteligencia de un mico. ¿Por qué piensas que invita a todas las mujeres guapas a su castillo? Y siempre usa el mismo piropo: ‘¡Qué sorpresa! ¡El zapato le queda perfecto!’ Necesitas un verdadero hombre.” Con esto, el hada madrina desapareció. “Qué extraño”, dijo Cenicienta, y ella empezó a trabajar de nuevo. En muy poco tiempo, oyó un clamor desde fuera de la casa. La puerta abrió lentamente y una silueta apareció en la entrada. “My name is Chuck Norris, and I love you Cenicienta.” Cenicienta se confundió. “Lo siento, Señor, pero yo no comprendo el inglés. Por favor déjame en paz.” Pero Chuck Norris no le gustaba el español, y no quería irse. Él comenzó a acercarse más y más a ella. En ese momento, Zorro (CAME CRASHING THROUGH THE WINDOW) y gritó “Yo puedo hablar perfectamente el español.” Cenicienta le enamoró de Zorro inmediatamente. Zorro le dio una patada al estómago de Chuck Norris, levantó a Cenicienta sobre sus hombros, y la sacó de la habitación. “Me llamo Antonio Banderas, y eres la mujer de mis sueños.” Cuando una de las feas hermanastras regresó a la casa de Cenicienta, vio a Chuck Norris, inconsciente, en el suelo. Lo trajo a la iglesia y se casaron en aquella noche. Cenicienta y Antonio Banderas hablaron el español cada día, tuvieron hijos guapos e hispánicos, y vivieron felices para siempre. 

La moraleja del cuento es que si no aprende bien el español, vas a tener niños feos.

Indignez-Vous!

Le changement est proche, c'est une affirmation que j'ai arrivé a dire sans crainte de trop me tromper en voyant les dernières manifestations populaires au crit d'"Indignez-vous!" écrit par Hessel.

Stéphane Hessel, est un diplomate et militant politique français de 94 ans, combattant de la France libre pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, puis déporté à Buchenwald, il a été secrétaire de la commission ayant élaboré à l'ONU la Déclaration universelle des droits de l'homme. Il est également écrivain et poète.

C'est précisément ça ce que lui a fait devenir célèbre mondialement à cause d'avoir être l'auteur de'un petit livre d'une trentaine de pages qui a bouleversé l'actualité, especialèment a movilisé la jeunesse du mon entier.

Freddie Mercury Is Still Alive

Today is 24th November 2011, 20 years ago we lost the very unique Farrokh Bulsara, and these days you'll be able to see all sort of articles, tv programmes, interviews, videos, and a huge etcetera related to him, one of those is this I'd like to share with you now, it's not about himself but about the band, but it will help you understand that, Freddie Mercury is still alive. 



British television channel BBC TV will air a brand-new documentary in two different parts as the legendary band will count 40 years since it was founded, the documentary is called "Queen: Days Of Our Lives".

We'll be able to listen to the very Roger Taylor, and Brian May sharing with us their version of the incredible years with Queen, the huge success, their albums, tours and promotions all over the world including Asia, and South America, as well as their current situation and Freddie's passing in a very detailed way for the first time.

In 1971, four university students got together to form a band. Since then, that certain band called Queen have released 26 albums and sold over 300 million records worldwide. The popularity of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon is stronger than ever. Their story is a remarkable one, a narrative that covers early struggles, huge obstacles, success, arguments, breakups, triumph, tragedy and an enduring legacy – all against a backdrop of brilliant music and stunning live performances from every corner of the globe.
In this film, for the first time, it is the band that tells their story. Guiding us through an extensive archive full of hitherto unseen footage, the documentary reveals how four strong-minded individuals, all capable of writing massive hit songs, worked together so successfully for four decades.
Queen never did anything by halves – meaning their highs were massive, but their lows catastrophic. It is a compelling story told with intelligence, wit, plenty of humor and painful honesty.
But the band quickly learned that if reaching the top is tough, staying there is the biggest challenge of all. With a loss of focus in the studio, the decline in popularity in North America, increasing internal tension and a desire to pursue solo projects, it seemed as if the band had had its day.
Then came the performance from Mercury at Live Aid, and their record breaking Magic tour in 1986. Queen were propelled back amongst the very best. Rejuvenated, the world was once again at their feet, but then tragedy struck and threatened to tear the band apart. Featuring musical performances, previously unseen and rare footage, and intimate interviews.

God Save the Queen!

C1 y C2: Ciclo Superior (Especialización)

Hay vida detrás de un Ciclo Avanzado de Idiomas en las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas españolas?

Esta es la pregunta que muchos de vosotros, estudiantes de idiomas, o gentes interesadas en la certificación del conocimiento en lenguas extranjeras.

Pues bien la respuesta es , he contactado ciertas fuentes y he conseguido interesante y reciente información al respecto.

Tras completar el Ciclo Avanzado (5º Curso) en una EOI correspondiente en la actualidad al Nivel B2 del Marco Común de Referencia Europea,  existe como muchos de vosotros por no decir todos sabreis, el Nivel C1 y C2, cursos ambos dos de perfeccionamiento lingüístico o Ciclo Superior o de Especialización. Hasta ahora para poder tener acceso a esos cursos había que hacerlo en academias fuera del sistema educativo público.

Sin embargo y según parece la LOE prevee que las Comunidades Autónomas podrán impartir cursos de idiomas de nivel C (C1 y C2 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas), sí así lo desean, en función de su autonomía legislativa y reglamentaria.

Existen dos tipos de cursos:

  • Cursos reglados: aquellos cuyos contenidos mínimos están desarrollados mediante reglamento autonómico (decreto) u orden ministerial (para Ceuta y Melilla), y que están evaluados mediante un examen de certificación equiparables a la certificación de los niveles básico, intermedio y avanzado.
  • Cursos NO reglados: aquellos cuyos contenidos mínimos están desarrollados mediante una programación didáctica del departamento del idioma correspondiente adscrito a una EOI específica (autorizado por la Consejería de Educación), y que no están evaluados mediante un examen de certificación. Sólo conducen a la obtención de un certificado de asistencia, y, en su caso, de aprovechamiento.

De esto mismo se extrae la particularidad andaluza que es la que nos interesa en el caso que nos ocupa, y que desde el pasado 27 de Septiembre, según el artículo publicado en el BOJA, rige nuestra Comunidad Autónoma.

Espero haber resuelto todas las posibles dudas en cuanto a este importante tema, de lo contrario intentaré satisfacerlas dentro de mis humildes posibilidades a la medida que se me hagan saber.

Science Week: Harry Potter Goes Chemical

This whole week is going to be the "Science Week" in Ireland, the aim of "Science Week" is to promote the relevance of science, engineering and technology in our everyday lives and to demonstrate the importance of these disciplines to the future development of Irish society and to the economy.

And trying to do my bit for my country, I'm posting a very funny video of Daniel Radcliffe, also known as Harry Potter singing the song "Elements" by his hero (according to his words) Tom Lehrer.  Aparently the "chosen one" was very much into chemistry before getting interested in magic...

It's really worth the listening!

Les numérologues sont dans tous leurs états à l'approche du vendredi 11 novembre 2011, 49 minutes avant midi: il sera alors 11H11, le 11/11/11, un alignement rare de ce nombre qui, pour les adeptes des sciences occultes, pourrait signaler la survenue d'événements hors du commun.
Alors que, pour la plupart des gens, cette concordance chiffrée de la pendule et du calendrier, qui se produit une fois par siècle, passera totalement inaperçue, les numérologues et autres ésotéristes y chercheront tout un ensemble de signes.
Certains évoquent le début d'un renouveau humaniste, d'une nouvelle harmonie dans le monde voire même de l'ouverture d'une porte dans une nouvelle dimension ou encore "un bouleversement de la conscience".
Des milliers d'adeptes prévoient de se retrouver ce jour-là pour des cérémonies ou des danses. Plusieurs pages consacrées à cette date ont fait leur apparition sur Facebook.
L'organisation espagnole pour les aveugles Once organisera une loterie spéciale dotée d'un prix de onze millions d'euro.
Les médiums et grands prêtres du paranormal les plus connus saluent tous l'importance selon eux de "la synchronicité" du 11/11/11, comme l'Israélien Uri Geller, l'Américaine Solara, "experte en numérologie" et auteur d'un livre sur la signification du nombre onze, ou encore les fans de "Spinal Tap".
Il s'agit d'un film de 1984, décrivant un groupe de hard rock, basé sur des faits réels ou imaginaires et dans lequel le nombre onze revêt une signification toute particulière.
"Avoir un triple nombre clé sur le calendrier a certainement une grande signification", a dit Solara, interrogée par l'AFP. "Je vois un grand changement dans la conscience de la planète et cela coïncide avec cette date", a ajouté ce médium.
Solara, qui vit au Pérou, garde le secret sur ses projets pour le 11/11/11, révélant seulement que des groupes dans plus de cinquante pays marqueront cet événement en s'asseyant en silence pour méditer.
Les numérologues attribuent au nombre onze des pouvoirs paranormaux qui offrent un canal de communication avec le subconscient. Pour d'autres, comme Solara, onze représente la dualité du bien et du mal dans l'humanité.
Internet est aussi rempli de blogueurs qui insistent sur le caractère mystique de ce nombre régulièrement lié à des catastrophes, selon eux, comme les attaques du 11 septembre 2001 aux Etats-Unis.
Certains insistent aussi sur le fait que les deux tours du World Trade Center à New York rappelaient par leur forme le chiffre onze. De plus, le premier avion de passagers à s'écraser sur les tours était le vol numéro 11.
D'autres citent la prophétie de Saint Malachie, qui au XIe siècle prédisait qu'il y aurait 112 papes avant une apocalypse biblique. Benoît XVI est le 111e pontife.
La date du 11 est historiquement chargée. L'armistice de la 1ère Guerre Mondiale a été signé à 11H00 du matin le 11 novembre 1918.
"Il y a une synchronicité intéressante dans le fait qu'un grand nombre d'événements sont associés au nombre 11", observe Ellie Crystal, blogueuse qui se présente comme une "exploratrice du monde métaphysique".
Pour John Hoopes, professeur de pensée critique à l'Université du Kansas, toutes ces théories pseudo-scientifiques sont un parfait exemple du "biais de confirmation d'hypothèse". Il s'agit de la tendance à privilégier des informations qui confirment des idées préconçues sans tenir compte de celles qui les démentent, explique-t-il

CALLE 13 WINS BIG AT LATIN GRAMMYS

Calle 13, a Puerto Rican hip-hop group with Pan-American music, rebellious politics and a raunchy sense of humor, triumphed at the 12th annual Latin Grammy Awards,  which were televised Thursday from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. “Entren Los Que Quieran” (“Everybody Is Welcome”), the fourth Calle 13 album, was nominated for 10 awards this year, a record for the Latin Grammys. It helped that  Calle 13’s eclecticism qualified its songs for multiple categories —Urban, Alternative, Tropical.

“Entren Los Que Quieran” is Calle 13’s second album in a row to be named Album of the Year; it won the same award for its 2008 album, “Los de Atrás Vienen Conmigo” (“Those From Behind Are Coming With Me”)

Calle 13’s “Latinoamérica”— a panorama of Latin American images, problems and perseverance, set to an Andean-rooted beat — was named Record of the Year (for the recording) and Song of the Year (for the songwriting).  The band performed it to open the awards show, with the lead singer, rapper Residente (René Pérez),   backed by a Venezuelan symphony orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.

Accepting one award, for Best Urban Album, Residente said, “It’s very difficult for us navigating against the current,” and vowed to keep making “true music.” Returning for the Best Urban song award,  for “Baile de los Pobres” (“Dance of the Poor”), Residente added, “I know that we’re those who are heard not on the radio, but in the heart of the people.”

The show’s other major presence was Shakira, the Colombian superstar who was named Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy. She sang a ballad (“Antes de las Seis”), a rocker (“Devoción”) and a Latin dance tune, “Loca,” while out-shimmying the dancers around her.

She won the Best Female Pop Album award for her “Sale El Sol.”

This year’s Latin Grammy Awards show ratified Latin pop’s spreading crossover aspirations. Latin music is a coalition of national, regional and local styles, many of them aiming at different niche audiences. But musicians, marketers and the Internet have made musical boundaries far more porous over the last decade.

Latin pop has been cannily seeking crossover hits lately, bringing together performers from different countries and genres. The Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with Vocal went to a multinational trio — Alex, Jorge y Lena — from Cuba, Spain and Colombia. 

The Latin Grammys show re-enacted many studio collaborations onstage. Romeo Santos, a member of the Dominican-rooted New York group Aventura who has just  released a solo album, sang alongside with the R&B singer Usher to introduce a bachata in Spanish and English, “Promise,” with both singers sustaining smooth high-tenor melismas, a bilingual urban crossover.

The Dominican-rooted New Yorker Prince Royce turned “El Verdadero Amor Perdona,” an earnest rocker by the long-running Mexican band Maná — which won Best Rock Album for its “Drama y Luz” — into a lilting bachata. Alejandra Guzmán, a Mexican rock singer, brought husky melodrama to her duet with the Venezuelan songwriter Franco de Vita, draping herself on the piano in “Tan Solo Tú”; he was a winner for Best Male Pop Album. The reggaetón duo Wisin y Yandel shared “Fever” with the reggae singer Sean Kingston. And Sie7e welcomed Taboo, a member of Black Eyed Peas, for a guest spot in “Tengo Tu Love.”

Sie7e, a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter who often tosses a few words of English into his breezy folk-pop songs,  was named Best New Artist, although the album he released this year, “Mucha Cosa Buena,” is his third one.

Most of Pitbull’s “Rain Over Me”— with a rap that boasted “Latin’s the new majority”— was in English, with Marc Anthony singing the hook. The production numbers at the Latin Grammys often drew on Las Vegas revues, and Pitbull got a bevy of showgirls posing on chairs in bikinis. The productions didn’t always serve the songs.  Marco Antonio Solís performed his aching ballad (and the theme song for the telenovela “Teresa”) “A Dónde Vamos a Parar?”— winner for Best Regional Mexican Song— amid a stage full of dancers unfurling parasols. Shakira had to contend with whooshing smoke machines that her microphone picked up.

Amid the crossovers, there were also regional holdouts like Pepe Aguilar, singing his “Canción Mexicana”— a homage to Mexican favorites — with a glittering mariachi band.  But another regional mainstay, the  accordion-driven Mexican-American band Los Tigres del Norte, won Best Norteño  

Album for a collection of collaborations with musicians from across Latin America, embracing crossover.  Among them was Calle 13’s Residente — who, at this year’s Latin Grammys, was the star among stars.
“Today music triumphed,” Residente said as he accepted the Album of the Year award.
